Week 15 - Outside walls

Sunday, Feburary 1st
Later in the week the wood went on the outside of the building. There are still some walls waiting to have mortar applied - we haven't decided on the colour yet.
The ceiling in the porch and garage are now finished.

There have been many decisions that sem to have been made forus by the builders. Kaori and I are not sure that we remember stating the orientation of the wood on the outside walls. Maybe the builders just got fed up with waiting, whatever, it is now on vertically.

The hatch to the OM machine room is in place with its fold-down ladder.

Yesterday we drove to Ikea in Osaka and purchased the units for the kitchen. We were able to bring back 500Kg of cabinets but the two worktops and sink will have to be cut and will be delivered in a few weeks.

The kitchen is due to be fitted the first week in March. By then we have to put it together offsite to get all the hinges, sliders and handles aligned. There are a few areas tha have to be customised - the tall cupboard housing the wall oven is about 6mm to narrow, this is the main job. A friend with a furniture workshop is going to help with this.

This week we also chose the sinks and taps for the first floor toilet and bathroom.

Ceiling frames...

...and a few more

Insulation and ceiling frame in main bedroom

I visited today (Wednesday) and the floor in the kitchen, dining and living rooms is being laid. This was a surprise as only last week we had asked when it would go down (the floor boards having been on site for a while) and were told the order was ceiling, walls and then floor - so as not to damage it.

Anyway, it's down and here are the photos.

We now have frames for the ceilings in the children's rooms and walk in closet.

A lot more electrics are in - didn't get to see what (may have been cables from the front door to the kitchen for the intercom and front door open button), but all of the upstairs has bee wired, too.

Week 12

The first week I haven't taken photos mid-week - Monday was a holiday and there wasn't much visible progress by Tuesday or Wednesday. These photos are from Saturday the 10th of January.

Most of the wooden window frames are now in.

The post in the kitchen that is temporarily supporting a frame that the builders are using as access to ceiling, has been addressed. They thought it was to be covered so they screwed into it. This marks will get filled in and we will be able to see this wood in the end.

The porch, garage, kitchen and living rooms now have the frame on which the ceilings will be attached. The porch is lower than we had anticipated.

We have decided to add another TV socket in the living room. The bathroom electrics are on hold as we decide the height and size of the mirror.

Weeks 10-11

Not a lot happened in week 11 due to the New Year holiday.

Week 10 saw the insulation going in along with the first floor wiring.
The sockets and switches have been located by having their housings screwed to the beams. This came as a great shock as we had been told that we would be able to decide on these much later. Today, Jan 6th, I am off to meet the builder to put some of these correct. Also have a list of lots of other things to discuss.

Here are the photos from week 10.
