Week 21

Tuesday, March 10th

So much was going on today. There must have been 5 or 6 trades at the house today.
Concrete was being laid for the propane tank and back-up boilers to sit on. The porch was getting prepared for the tiles to be laid. The carpenters were putting the fake ceiling in the loft (to pass the building inspection) and "fixing" the mistakes in the living room cupboard. Scott and I were putting in the kitchen. Water pipes and drains were being laid. The window company was there checking the windows.

It looks like all the lights have arrived now, too.

We first had a problem with the kitchen when I twigged that the cover panels for the sides of the cupboards were white and that there was little point to cover the already white cupboards in this way. A call to Ikea confirmed that they had issued us with the wrong colour cover panels for the back wall (5 in total). These will be coming on Sunday.

This sets us back even further that the time we are already behind because the wrong colour heat panels were put in the kitchen. We knew that we would be unable to work on the sink side of the kitchen until this work was set to be completed on Friday.

Doing what we could, we made the most of the time, but were limited by the inability to complete the first few steps of installing the kitchen.

In the evening I went to check the locations of the door handles with Kaori and we noticed the living room shelf. Remarkably, the shelf which they cut to short has not been replaced, but patched up by having another piece of wood attached to it! This issue is not finished yet!

At some point in the afternoon the living room was getting a clean and the covers came off the floor boards. Then some furniture arrived and the doors to the deck were opened. I think they were taking photos to advertise the builder's open day.

Here are the photos. One is of the porch tiles being laid on Sunday morning.

Sunday, March 8th

I put together the kitchen cabinets - will finish making the kitchen on Tuesday with Scott.

Children's cupboards got finished, as did the railings on the stairs.

Railings on the deck had a trim.
